Things to Do in the Medina & Jemaa el-Fna

Marrakech's medina is a walled maze of souks, riads and blind alleys (derbs) built for shade, not cars — expect to get lost at least once. Jemaa el-Fna itself costs nothing to wander, but the snake charmers, henna ladies and monkey handlers will ask for money the moment you stop to look, so agree a price first or keep walking. Come back at dusk when the food stalls set up; that's when the square earns its reputation, not at midday.
