Things to Do in Ait Ben Haddou

Ait Ben Haddou is a UNESCO-listed ksar, a fortified village about 3.5 hours from Marrakech, its earthen towers used so often as a film set — Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia — that some corners feel more prop than home. Fewer than a dozen families still actually live inside the walls; most residents moved to the modern village across the river decades ago. Cross the river, on a footbridge or stepping stones depending on the water level, and climb to the top for the view — that's the part worth the drive.
